DAWN OF THE PLANET OF APES – A PERFECT FOLLOW UP

It’s been a while since a motion picture left me in awe. Dawn of the Planet of Apes is one such film. While Rise of the Planet of Apes was all about Caesar finding his true habitat Dawn pits the Apes against the humans with a clever character switch.

Right from the time the Apes come into the picture till the very end you end up rooting for Caesar rather than the human race. Matt Reeves deftly mirrors the human race via the Apes. The bonding, betrayal and love is all there for the audience to see.

Despite the presence of Jason Clarke, Keri Russel and Gary Oldman Andy Serkis once again steals the show as Caesar. The caring father, the able leader the doting husband Caesar’s character has so many dimensions that after a while you forget it’s just an ape.

The visual effects are top-notch and gives the much-needed grandeur to this HUMAN vs APE conflict. Matt Reeves does a wonderful job wearing the director’s hat. The subtle lessons on what makes the humans vulnerable and the strong emotions and bonding that runs throughout the film are what makes this movie so endearing.

The franchise has been so perfectly set up for what is to come with Matt Reeves returning to the director’s chair.
Dawn of the Planet of Apes – A must watch on the big screen only.
