Mango Chutney – The title intrigued me. What could be the connection between an anthology and food? I decided to read and find out.
The assortment starts off strongly with stories that strike a chord with the readers. There’s something for everyone. There’s food for thought, hope and love. I kept reading hoping to finish it in one go. But midway through the book my mind drew a blank. Perhaps I should coin a new term – mid book crisis.
The stories start mirroring mere page fillers. The plots seemed to drag on and on with too much description. Just when I was about to lose hope the book picked up pace right at the end leading to a wonderful finish.
With better editing this mango chutney would have been a keeper instead it ends up being a one time read. A little more spice and flavour would have made this anthology irresistible. I couldn’t help feeling that this collection could have been much more that what it is.
My top 5 picks from the collection.
The Creation of love – Deepti Menon
Tainted Red – Athira Jim
The Rejection Ceremony – Shubham Kapur
Sawai – Arjun Bhatia
The Other Side – Sakshi Nanda.
My Rating – 3 stars.
